Descripción

The Costaceae family consists of four genera and over 150 species.  Costus are native to tropical areas of Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas.  The largest genus is Costus, with over 100 species.  Other genera include Tapeinochilos, with about 20 species, Dimerocostus (two species) and Monocostus (one species). Indonesian wax ginger is a moisture and shade loving plant, 5-6 feet tall.  The basal inflorescence is a gorgeous solid bright red, and the bracts are very stiff and waxy.  Excellent as a tropical garden plant or as a cut flower.  Blooms throughout the year.
